The movie The Elephant Man was overall the best movie
that I have seen in black and white. I believe that it should have received academy
awards because it had all of the factors that a movie needed such as suspense,
plot, and a theme. I liked how the movie gives us a theme that you should never
judge a book by its cover. I liked how every person had a specific judgment
over John Merrick and then later on changed that judgment into a welcoming
personality towards the monster. The movie also shows us that we are all in one
point a monster; not physically, but instead mentally. The movie in the
beginning gave me a disgusted look toward the elephant man, but as the movie
progressed, I started to have sympathy towards him. The movie had a horrible
ending although because John Merrick died in his sleep, but at the same time,
it had an ironic ending due to John dying trying to sleep like a normal person.
Was the ending terrible? We all die, and although John Merrick died tragically young, he did die knowing he was loved and having leanred to find his own voice and live a happy life. Many “successful” people never get that far.
